Burcol - Spanish Beans & Pulses Since 1990
Founded in 1990 in Cabanillas del Campo, north-east of Madrid, Burcol has spent more than three decades perfecting the art of selecting, cooking and packing pulses. It remains a family-run business at heart, and their philosophy is a simple one: "we give our customers only what we would serve in our own home." That care shows in every jar and every bag - each variety is chosen for size, skin quality and structural integrity, so what you cook with is genuinely consistent.
Burcol's jarred beans, chickpeas and lentils are gently cooked and packed in glass rather than tins, which preserves a softer, creamier texture and lets the natural flavour of each pulse come through - we've written more about why jarred beans are worth the extra care in our guide, Beans in Jars - Why Are They Better? They're fully cooked and ready to use straight from the jar - no soaking, no boiling - in our White Beans, Butter Beans, Cooked Lentils and Jarred Chickpeas.
Alongside the jarred range, Burcol's dried beans and lentils are for anyone who prefers to cook pulses from scratch - Dried Butter Beans, Pardina Lentils, Black Caviar Lentils and Dry Black Beans, along with the prized Green Verdina Beans, a delicate variety grown in Spain's Asturias region and traditionally used in seafood and vegetable dishes. Cooking from dried gives you full control over seasoning and lets you build flavour into the beans themselves as they cook, and it's generally the more economical way to buy pulses too.
However you like to cook, Burcol's pulses are a genuine Spanish pantry staple - stirred into stews such as fabada, simmered into soups, blended into a smoother hummus than you'll get from a tin, or dressed simply with olive oil, garlic and herbs for a quick tapas plate.
