Odawaraya Garlic Crunch Oil, Sesame 110g

Odawaraya started out in 1933 in Koriyama, Fukushima, making tsukudani and pickles. The founder had trained at a pickle shop in the town of Odawara, and he named his business after it. Over 90 years later the company is still in Koriyama, and its "eating oils" have become some of its best-loved products. These are oils so full of crisp pieces that they're eaten with a spoon. The Sesame version takes the fried garlic and onion of the Original and adds toasted sesame oil to the blend, giving it a deeper, nuttier and more distinctly Japanese flavour.

The sesame comes through first on the nose, followed by sweet, savoury garlic and a little soy. There's no chilli, so it's all flavour and crunch rather than heat. It's at its best with Asian dishes: spooned over a bowl of rice, stirred into cold soba or udon, or drizzled on silken tofu with spring onions. It's also good on steamed greens, a cucumber salad, grilled chicken or a piece of salmon.

How to Use

Stir the jar well before use. Spoon over rice, noodles, tofu, eggs, steamed vegetables or grilled meat and fish. Whisk the oil with rice vinegar and a little soy sauce for a quick salad dressing. Use as a finishing oil rather than for frying, as high heat dulls the sesame and softens the garlic.
